If you are anything like my family, summertime, especially in Chicago, is packed full of family and friend gatherings. Gotta take advantage of that nice weather for the 2 months out of the year!
This means these 2 months we are not indoors rotting away watching TV, or sitting aimlessly on a computer (unless you are writing a blog post like I am right now).
Who has time to design or manage construction on your home when there is fun to be had outside?
Well, you’re in luck! We have compiled the top 3 quick, small tips for making an impact on your home that you can start today! Don’t worry, we will get you back outside before you can say margaritas!
Our 3 Tips:
VISUAL BALANCE

The placement of furniture is the easiest thing to change for a better overall design. Consider moving items to create visual balance.
Take the bed in the image above, for instance. To balance the room, we placed a lounge chair below. When all parts of a room are visually weighted with one another, there is more harmony within the space.
PAIRING FINISHES

Metal materials can be tricky. There are different colors like gold, brass, nickel, bronze, and chrome. Additionally, there are different finishes, such as matte, polished, and brushed.
So the question is…
- How do you know which to choose?
- Can you have more than 1 color or finish throughout your home?
- Should all finishes be the same? Different?
The rule of thumb, according to us, is to choose up to 2 colors. There are certain color pairing that works and some that typically do not. Nickel has a warm undertone so it pairs well with other warm undertones. Chrome, on the other hand, is very cold toned. Black works with anything since it is a neutral color. Choose up to 2 colors and stick with them throughout the home.
COHESIVE COLORS

You first need to decide on your color scheme. Do you want a monochrome palette, pops of color, or neutral? Assess your current space and lean into what is currently happening for a quicker result.
Monochrome: one color variation with white and/or black accents
Pops of color: neutral throughout with accent colors
Neutral: warm or cool undertones throughout with muted coloring
